Kremer Pigmente

Fine Colored Glass Pigments

The colored glass is produced by melting lead crystal glass with heavy metal oxides, thus a wide variety of colors is achieved. The light fastness of all colored glass powders is excellent.

The colored glass pigments can be used in all media, such as oil, acrylic dispersions, lime and all kinds of glues. In certain mortars and cements the pigments may cause blooming. For application in exterior environments it is advisable to do trials first.

The colored glass is crushed and then ground to a gritty powder of about 0.25 mm. The powder is then sieved.

We offer the glass powder in 5 different grades:
#39xxx1: finer than 63 µ - the finest powder is also the lightest powder, it can be easily worked with the brush in any media (e.g. watercolor, print, glazing, etc.).
#39xxx2: 63-80 µ - the fine powder can easily be used in all media, its coloring strength is better than grade A.

#39xxx3: 80-100 µ - the coarse powder gives brilliance and body to the paint, but it is too coarse to be applied in watercolor or glazing techniques. The glass particles can be seen in thin layers.
#39xxx4: 100-125 µ - the powder has a sandy texture and can be strewn, the glass particles show a glittering surface.
#39xxx5: coarser than 125 µ - the particles can be literally moved around on the surface, ideal for fresco techniques and sand-like textures.

Safety advice:  Avoid dusting, do not breathe dust.  Harmful by inhalation and if swallowed.
